Call the Mounties! Ads featuring a nearly naked Pamela Anderson touting vegetarianism for PETA have been banned from public display by Montreal officials in her native Canada, Us Weekly reports.

The animal rights activist, a British Columbia native, flew to Montreal to promote her provocative new PETA ad today (July 15). In it, the surgically enhanced actress wears a skimpy, periwinkle string bikini with her body parts tagged like butcher-shop meat and marked “rump,” “breasts,” “feet,” “shoulders,” etc. The logo reads: “All Animals Have the Same Parts — Have a Heart. Go Vegetarian.”

PETA claims public officials described the ads as sexist and, at the last minute, denied a permit to unveil the ads in a public reception at Montreal’s Place Jacques-Cartier.

“In a city that is known for exotic dancing and for being progressive and edgy, how sad that a woman would be banned from using her own body in the political protest over the suffering of cows and chickens,” Anderson said in a statement.

“In some parts of the world women are forced to cover their whole bodies with burkas — is that next? I didn’t think Canada would be so puritanical.”

City official Josee Rochefort informed PETA that he could not grant a permit for a public event because “it goes against all the principles public organizations are fighting for in the everlasting battle of equality of men and women.”

Our translation: We don’t give a slice of Canadian bacon about Anderson’s meaty agenda.

PETA spokesperson/Senior Vice President Dan Mathews also lambasted Montreal’s refusal, saying, “I think that city officials are confusing ’sexy’ with ’sexist.’”

The activists told StyleList the ads will now launch today at a private party at Restaurant Globe.

Here’s hoping they don’t show the PETA video in which Anderson stripped to encourage fans to ditch meat. That ad got banned stateside in 2009 by the CNN Airport Network.

Meanwhile, read how first lady Michelle Obama unwittingly ended up in one of the controversial animal-rights organization’s anti-fur ads.
